Partnerships that power change

We believe that collaboration is key to creating lasting, positive change. Our partnerships span government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions, and the private sector, both in New Zealand, across the Pacific and beyond. By working together, we leverage each other's strengths to support communities.

All VSA assignments are built around reciprocal partnerships with local organisations.

Partnerships are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that by working together—with businesses, NGOs, academic institutions, government bodies, and regional organisations—we can create real, sustainable change across the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

“People who are able to volunteer offshore bring new ideas, different ways of doing things... exchange is always good because it’s an exchange of people, cultures and ideas”

Rt Hon Helen Clark

Our partnerships are as diverse as the organisations we work with. Each one is tailored to the shared goals and unique strengths of our collaborators

Partner with us

VSA works closely with government agencies, NGOs, and community organisations across Aotearoa New Zealand that are committed to sustainable development and global citizenship. These partnerships strengthen our connection to home and ensure our work aligns with New Zealand’s development goals and values. Together, we mobilise resources, raise awareness, and promote meaningful international engagement.

Our in-country partners—governments, ministries, NGOs, and civil society organisations—are at the heart of our volunteer programmes. These organisations identify local priorities and development needs, and VSA works with them to design volunteer assignments that build capacity and support long-term goals. We focus on respectful, locally led collaboration.

VSA partners with key regional organisations, such as the Pacific Community (SPC) and UN agencies, to support development across the wider Pacific. These partnerships help address region-wide challenges like climate change, gender equity, and governance. Our volunteers work on regional initiatives that benefit multiple countries and communities.

We collaborate with New Zealand businesses that want to make a positive impact in the Pacific. Through strategic partnerships, funding support, or sharing expertise, business partners help extend the reach of our volunteer programmes. These collaborations combine commercial insight with development outcomes, creating shared value for all involved.

VSA works with New Zealand universities and research institutions to promote global learning, professional development, and research collaboration. These partnerships provide opportunities for students, graduates, and academics to contribute to development work while gaining valuable real-world experience in diverse cultural settings.
