This assignment is a partnership assignment between VSA and Live & Learn Environmental Education Fiji in developing a comprehensive Monitoring and Evaluation (MEL) framework to enhance programme effectiveness and organisational capacity. The volunteer will work closely with the senior management team, MEL project officers, and an understudy to review existing frameworks, identify gaps, and create a contextualised MEL system suited to the unique needs of Live & Learn Fiji. By establishing clear guidelines, tools, and processes, the framework will promote consistent MEL practices, improve reporting to stakeholders, and strengthen overall programme delivery.
A key focus of the role is to build internal MEL capacity through mentoring, training sessions, and the development of refresher toolkits. The volunteer will support staff in integrating MEL practices into programme design, implementation, and reporting, ensuring sustainable outcomes and enhancing Live & Learn Fiji’s impact across its projects. This collaborative effort will lead to more efficient, effective, and transparent programme delivery, ultimately benefiting the communities served by Live & Learn Fiji.

Our Partner Organisation - Live & Learn Environmental Education Fiji is a branch of the broader Live & Learn Environmental Education network, which was founded in 1994 and is headquartered in Australia. Committed to promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship, Live & Learn Fiji empowers local communities through capacity building, hands-on training, and comprehensive environmental education programmes. Their work focuses on areas such as climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and waste management, aligning with global sustainable development goals. By collaborating with government agencies, NGOs, and local stakeholders, Live & Learn Fiji aims to drive positive, lasting change for both people and the environment.

The Country
Fiji includes the other 3 cultural groups called Fijians -Rotuma, Rabi, and Kioa (Rabian and Kioans) were resettled in Fiji after being evacuated from Ocean islands, Tuvalu and Kiribati).

It is a destination attraction for its coral reefs, clear lagoons, and tropical landscapes. Fijian indigenous society is very communal, with great importance attached to the family unit, the village, and the vanua (land). With the introduction of traditions such as Indian and Chinese and significant influences from Europe and Fiji's Pacific neighbours, particularly Tonga and Samoa, these various cultures have come together to create a multicultural national identity for Fiji.

Fiji has several development goals they are focusing on as a country such as lowering youth unemployment rates, reducing poverty, reducing child mortality and gender inequality, increasing environmental sustainability, and improving the health and education status of its citizens.
