If you’re an experienced Educational Leader, looking for an extraordinary overseas experience in the Pacific to build into your field of expertise – working collaboratively with Don Bosco Technical Institute, then read on, as we have an exciting opportunity in store for you!
Our Partner Organisation - Don Bosco Technical Institute
Don Bosco Technical Institute, part of the worldwide Don Bosco Network, focuses on providing technical education and personal development opportunities to young people who have dropped out of the traditional school system. Rooted in Catholic values of reason, religion, and kindness, the institute trains students for various trade industries while fostering individuality and leadership. The principal, a graduate of the institute, seeks support to enhance leadership, curriculum development, and management skills to better serve the organisation's mission of empowering youth.
The Assignment
This assignment is a partnership assignment between VSA, and Don Bosco Technical Institute.
This volunteer assignment offers an opportunity to support the leadership and curriculum development goals of the Don Bosco, and the volunteer will work alongside the principal, providing mentorship to enhance their leadership skills, improve curriculum structure, and develop effective communication and team management practices. The role focuses on building the principal’s confidence in executing his duties and overseeing curriculum review and standardisation.
The assignment emphasises shared learning, cultural exchange, and capacity building, enabling the volunteer to make a meaningful contribution to the institute’s mission of empowering young people through technical education. By collaborating closely with staff and leadership, the volunteer will play a vital role in strengthening the institute's educational offerings and fostering sustainable development.
The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone? VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community. You will need to be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community.
We're looking for a volunteer with the following:
The Country
The Solomon Islands has over 900 islands, 5,000 rural villages and 550,000 people. Between 1999 and 2003 it experienced a period of conflict which took a heavy toll on the country and left a need for reconciliation and on-going peace and security measures.
A request for assistance by the government in 2003 led Australia, New Zealand and other Pacific Island countries to form the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI) which restored peace and security.
VSA has established a strong presence in Solomon Islands through its ongoing partnerships with multiple in-country partners, including strong relationships with Solomon Islands Government.
