Samoa Family Health Association (SFHA)
Samoa Family Health Association (SFHA) is the leading family planning and reproductive health services organisation in Samoa, through the clinic in Motootua, Apia as well as the Mobile Clinic for ease of access for those who live in rural areas. 

It was established in 1962 as a non-government association that is primarily funded for by donor partners. In 1987, SFHA became a member under the International Planned Parenthood Federation.

SFHA’s vision is to make sure that all Samoan people, especially the
marginalized and vulnerable, have access to quality, sexual and reproductive
health (SRH) services and education. SFHS also proactively engages in advocacy work in our local communities.

SFHA is committed to delivering quality service that maintains confidentiality and making sure there are integrated services that will meet their needs in this area.

The target population for our community service delivery are Females (youth and adults), Males (youth and adults), people with disabilities, as well as primary and secondary schools.

Services provided are – Antenatal Care, Sexually Transmitted Disease examinations, Counselling (including Gender Based Violence testing).

Samoa Family Health Association also facilitate Youth Clinics to encourage the youth to come in for general health check-ups and hopefully have the ‘hard’ conversations that they may be too afraid to share at home.

The Assignment - Financial Adviser
This assignment is a partnership assignment between VSA and Samoa Family Health Association (SFHA).

In this assignment a VSA Volunteer is required to assist and provide support in strengthening capacity and assist in mentoring while working alongside staff towards providing timely budget updates and financial reports, most of the Samoa Family Health Association systems are manual and the financial policies need to be reviewed to ensure they are current and fit for purpose.

The VSA Volunteer will also support the recommendation to hire another staff member to assist with the comprehensive work. 

Having consistent and stable financial reporting is imperative to the organisation.

The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone? 

VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community.

You will need to be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community

We're looking for a volunteer with the following:
  • Bachelor's degree in financial management
  • Proven experience in financial and accounting systems (Ie. Financial reporting)
  • Understanding of MYOB accounting system (SFHA uses this programme)
  • Computer and technological skills (e.g. financial software, Microsoft office etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in providing financial advice.

The Country
Samoa, is situated in the South Pacific approximately halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand.

It sits squarely in the cyclone belt and is highly vulnerable to devastating storms.

Around three-quarters of its 195,000 population live on the main island of Upolu; the rest live on the neighbouring island of Savai'i or one of the seven small islets.

The traditional Samoan way, the fa’a Samoa, remains a strong force in Samoan life and politics where family is all-important, and elders are highly respected.
  
Each village is made up of extended families that are represented on the village council by a chief (matai).

The more western-style parliamentary system in Samoa is highly influenced by traditional social systems and the family, civic and political duties performed by the matai at village level. The country is predominantly Christian.
