Volunteering with VSA
Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) is not your typical volunteering agency, we are committed to building sustainable communities across the Pacific. If you’re an experienced business adviser or someone who has successfully run their own business, and you are looking for an extraordinary overseas experience in the Pacific to build into your field of expertise – working collaboratively with Akuron Coffee, then read on, as we have an exciting opportunity in store for you!
Our Partner Organisation - Akuron Coffee
Akuron Coffee was established in March 2023 by husband and wife, Wency and Roselyne Noruka, in Arawa, Central Bougainville. The company is a social enterprise that is driven by a passion for coffee and wanting to improve the livelihoods of local coffee growing communities in Bougainville
The Assignment
This assignment is a partnership assignment between VSA, and Akuron Coffee. With the speed at which the business has taken off, Akuron Coffee has not yet had the opportunity to create a solid business strategy, marketing strategy, and a communications strategy. The creation of these foundations is crucial for the business to grow sustainably and to realise it’s goal of working
with local growing communities to improve livelihood outcomes. A suitable volunteer with experience and knowledge in business development and stakeholder engagement will support Akuron to grow its capacity in these fundamental areas
The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone? VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community. You will need to be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community.
We're looking for a volunteer with experience in the following:
The Country
The Autonomous Region of Bougainville, previously known as the North Solomons, comprises Buka, Bougainville, and other small outlying islands. Bougainville is situated in the Solomon Sea between Papua New Guinea (PNG) and Solomon Islands, and the capital city is Buka. While most Bougainvilleans are Melanesian, the people of Takuu and Nukuman islands are Polynesian.
