VSA is New Zealand's largest and most experienced volunteering agency working in international development. We provide skilled Kiwi volunteers to support organisations in the Pacific and beyond through capacity building, both in-country and virtually. 
  
What is UniVol?  
VSA’s UniVol programme aims to provide new graduates with an extraordinary overseas experience in the Pacific while contributing to existing VSA programmes and improving international development education in New Zealand.
  
The UniVol programme has been operating since 2006.

Am I eligible for the UniVol Programme?  
The UniVol programme is a collaboration between Volunteer Service Abroad - Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) and Otago, Victoria, Massey, and Auckland universities. Therefore, to be eligible you must: 
  • Be a New Zealand citizen or Permanent Resident 
  • Be 30 years old or under
  • Recently graduated, or graduating in 2024, from a New Zealand University.
About the Assignment – Student Learning Support Assistant
In this assignment a VSA Volunteer will assist and support staff to deliver Student Learning Support (SLS) to provide academic support to the University of the South Pacific students so that their learning experience is easier and worthwhile. Student Learning Support equips students with the necessary academic and study skills to assist students to achieve their goals while they are studying at USP.

University of the South Pacific, Cook Islands would like to offer a range of services for our students to participate in.

These services can be tailor made to help students tackle and manage the requirements of tertiary education.

In addition, the hope is that students will be able to download and/or use the learning resources provided by the VSA Volunteer by providing these sorts of opportunities, tools and expertise for learning, teaching and research students will experience a higher success rate, and this then encourages them to stay on with their studies.

Student Learning Support will include providing mentoring, academic skills workshops, online resources and drop in consultations to give advice for students to develop academic skills.
  
The Partner Organisation - The University of the South Pacific, Cook Islands
Established in 1968, the University of the South Pacific is one of only two universities of its type in the world.

It is jointly owned by the governments of 12 member countries: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

The University of South Pacific, Cook Islands (USPCI) Campus was officially established in 1975, and the current campus buildings were opened at Takamoa in 1979 and extended in 2012. USP is an internationally acclaimed institution with a distinctly Pacific character that promotes academic excellence, innovation and research, responsible leadership, and community service.

It prepares students for lifelong success, graduating degree holders
with work-ready skills and confidence.

The Country - Cook Islands
The Cook Islands has 240 square kilometres of land, comprising 15 islands spread across 2.1 million square kilometres of ocean.

The islands are self-governing in "free association" with New Zealand.

This means Cook Islands nationals are citizens of New Zealand, and New Zealand (in consultation with the Cook Islands government) has responsibility for external affairs such as defence.   

The economy is mainly based on tourism and marine resources.

Agricultural products include copra, fruit and vegetables, coffee, pigs and poultry.
