This is your opportunity to become a VSA Volunteer to share your experience, skills and knowledge to serve and build capacity in Fiji. Work alongside our local partner organisation to plan and create a brighter future for all.

We are looking for an experienced Social Enterprise Business Advisor or someone with the right level of transferrable skills, who understands and shares the spirit of volunteering, with a keen interest in building capability in the Pacific (while embracing a new cultural experience).

The length of this assignment in Fiji will be 12 months.

VSA will support you by funding and organizing your flights, visas, insurances, accommodation, living allowance and utilities while you are on assignment.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako – Essential skills/experiences for the role

If you are interested in this opportunity, below are some of the key skills and experiences that we’re looking for.

• Tertiary qualification in Business administration or relevant field OR Minimum 3–5 years’ practical experience in business, social enterprise, organisational or programme development, capacity-building, or programme management (or equivalent experience).
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and work alongside staff to strengthen skills and embed systems.
• Commitment to inclusive, rights-based approaches, especially for persons with disabilities.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Important note

: Due to our VSA funding requirements, our volunteers must be a NZ citizen or NZ Permanent Resident to progress further in our recruitment process.

Our Partner Organisation – National Council for Persons with Disability

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) is Fiji’s central coordinating body for the disability sector, responsible for promoting the rights, inclusion, and wellbeing of persons with disabilities. Established in 1992 and formalised under the 1994 Act—later aligned with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2018—it operates under the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection. The Council plays a key role in coordinating government agencies, organisations of persons with disabilities, and service providers, while advancing policy, advocacy, and inclusive development initiatives across the country.

The Assignment 

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities faces ongoing challenges due to inconsistent and delayed government funding, creating uncertainty in programme planning, limiting sustainable training initiatives, and disrupting operations. Reliance on short-term donor support, combined with capacity constraints and limited infrastructure, further affects the delivery of high quality, inclusive vocational programmes.

As VSA volunteer you will help address these challenges through a capacity transfer approach, strengthening institutional systems, business and social enterprise practices, and staff capability in planning, management, and programme delivery. You will support the exploration and development of sustainable income-generating models linked to existing initiatives, alongside building systems and strategies to reduce reliance on short-term funding. Success will be reflected in strengthened organisational capacity, more consistent and high-quality programme delivery, and increased financial sustainability to support the empowerment, employment, and social inclusion of persons with disabilities.

The Country – Fiji

Fiji includes the other 3 cultural groups called Fijians -Rotuma, Rabi, and Kioa (Rabian and Kioans) were resettled in Fiji after being evacuated from Ocean islands, Tuvalu and Kiribati).

It is a destination attraction for its coral reefs, clear lagoons, and tropical landscapes. Fijian indigenous society is very communal, with great importance attached to the family unit, the village, and the vanua (land). With the introduction of traditions such as Indian and Chinese and significant influences from Europe and Fiji's Pacific neighbours, particularly Tonga and Samoa, these various cultures have come together to create a multicultural national identity for Fiji.

Fiji has several development goals they are focusing on as a country such as lowering youth unemployment rates, reducing poverty, reducing child mortality and gender inequality, increasing environmental sustainability, and improving the health and education status of its citizens.
