Finance and HR Technology Uplift

Lead internal systems uplift to strengthen VSA’s impact across the Pacific.


Volunteer Service Abroad – Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) is seeking an experienced Project Manager to take the lead on phase one of our Finance and People systems uplift. You’ll be responsible for the planning and preparation of our new Finance Management and Accounting System (FMIS), Payroll system, and HRIS. This is a rare opportunity to shape critical systems that will modernise how VSA supports our people, programmes, and partners.


The role


As Project Lead, you’ll steer the planning and preparation phase, with responsibility for:

  • Designing and driving project and resource planning for the upgrade programme
  • Leading requirements gathering and documentation for FMIS, Payroll, and HRIS solutions
  • Conducting needs analysis and developing a robust business case
  • Preparing Request for Proposal (RFP) documentation to support procurement
  • Partnering with Finance and People & Culture teams to optimise business processes and ensure readiness for implementation

This fixed-term role (to June 2026) reports to the Finance Manager and is based in our Head Office in Wellington.


About you


You’ll thrive in this role if you can bring structure, influence, and foresight to complex change projects. You’ll bring:

  • 5+ years’ project management experience, ideally with complex cross- functional or system projects
  • Strong change management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to foster collaboration and manage resistance
  • Experience managing software procurement processes, including RFP development and vendor engagement
  • Knowledge of FMIS, HRIS or payroll systems (an advantage)
  • A values-driven approach, with a commitment to international development, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and working across cultures
