We have a full-time (37.5 hours) fixed-term until June 2025 position available. This is a Wellington based position.

Ko wai mātou – Who are we

Volunteer Service Abroad: Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) is a volunteering agency working in international development. We develop partnerships so we can send our volunteers on assignment. Our volunteers share their skills, experiences, and knowledge with local people and communities in the wider pacific region to make real, sustainable change.

Te āhua o Te Tūrunga – The nature of the position

As our Principal Liaison – Pacific Partnerships, you will build trusted connections with Pacific led organisations and communities in Aotearoa. You will know who and how best to create and nurture strategic relationships that will enable collaboration and development of volunteering opportunities and projects. Along with your extensive network of contacts, you will develop and manage new partnerships and relationships for VSA, engaging with Pacific Peoples, community leaders and organisations.

You will play an important role in promoting and progressing VSA’s Pacific Engagement Plan, as well as evaluating how the plan is working. Through a supportive approach you will help strengthening and develop VSA’s Pacific cultural awareness and cultural capability.

You will coordinate and act as a Secretariat for VSA’s Pacific Advisory Group, an external group assembled to advise our Te Tumu Whakarae / Chief Executive Officer.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako – Essential skills/experiences for the role

We are looking for someone that embodies manaakitanga and believes in shared learning through volunteering and partnerships. You are a connector and a people person. You are an excellent communicator, particularly in cross-cultural settings.

You will ideally:

  • Have proven experience at intermediate - senior level (approx. 5 yrs.) in partnerships & business development.
  • Be experienced in building and nurturing relationships.
  • Have an extensive network of contacts across Pacific led organisations and communities; with a connection to, and an understanding of, one or more pacific cultures.
  • Have demonstrated experience in project coordination, with solid ability in developing projects.

The starting salary for this role is between $80,518 - $94,727, depending on skill and experience.

This role is based in Wellington CBD, at the VSA head office, with the flexibility to work-from-home up to a couple of days a week.
