Kaiārahi Matua - Senior Cultural Advisor - Māori

As well as providing essential input to the 2025-2030 Strategy.

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role

Based under the shelter of the maunga Ahumairangi and only meters away from Pipitea marae in Te Whanganui-a-Tara this role brings with it, its own uniqueness being a newly established role.

In this mahi, you will take on an important role in leading and guiding our organisation to grow its cultural capability and provide recommendations to encourage practices when engaging with Maori in key areas across the organisation.

• Whakanui – create the conditions for te ao Maori to be valued by VSA
• Whakaako – create the conditions for Te Tiriti to be valued by VSA
• Whakaatu – create the conditions for te reo Maori to be seen, read, heard, and spoken by VSA

You will be able to be your authentic self, where your mātauranga is valued and appreciated, and you will have the autonomy and scope to create real impact, as well as be able to improve and create new policies and weave in these into everyday practice and normalising this as we go

Ideally, you will bring with you:

• The ability to demonstrate a working knowledge of the Māori Capability Framework and how it will apply to VSA.
• Confidence in speaking te reo and be comfortable supporting any initiatives to grow staff confidence in speaking and understanding tikanga and kawa.
• Confidence with the application and interpretation of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a work setting.
• Proof in the design and implementation of the strategy (Diversity or broader organisational strategy).
• Capability of reviewing existing practices and processes and making recommendations to adapt these to ensure a more successful work environment for Maori.
• Someone who enjoys being part of a dynamic team, who enjoys singing, and celebrates working in a multicultural environment.
