CARE International, Timor-Leste (CITL) works to end poverty and bring
about lasting, sustainable development in Timor-Leste placing special focus
on enhancing the roles of women and girls to assure their equality in society.
CITL works with communities in Timor-Leste to encourage demand for
higher quality education, health care and other community services.
Care International has been working in Timor-Leste for over 25 years.

The Assignment
This assignment is a partnership assignment between VSA and CARE International, Timor-Leste. In this assignment, a VSA volunteer is required to provide support in building capacity alongside Care International staff and member organizations to utilize Lafaek learning media enabling easy access to learning for children.

The goal is to improve children's learning outcomes by developing books using storytelling techniques and creative writing. The Lafaek production team requires mentorship and training to enhance their ability to create educational and culturally relevant content.

The VSA Volunteer will provide mentorship, expertise, and capacity-building to help the team develop products suitable for a wider audience.

The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone?  VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community.

You will need to be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community.

We're looking for a volunteer with the following:

  • Experience in conducting training workshops and mentoring creative teams, focusing on enhancing content development, storytelling, and multimedia production skills.
  • Good knowledge and experience in the use of all the digital applications needed to create successful information packages and clips for information sharing physically and through media platforms.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with teams and stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds, adapting communication style to the local context.
Desirable
• Extensive experience developing and producing digital and print products using storytelling and creative writing.
• Previous experience developing or implementing content addressing gender equity and social inclusion in contexts like Timor-Leste.

The Country
There are 1,225,000 people living in Timor-Leste (formerly known as East Timor). Timor-Leste is one of the world's newest nations and the newest in Southeast Asia with history of colonization and occupation.  Timor-Leste became independent in 2002 and the same year it became the 191st member of the United Nations.
