Volunteering with VSA
Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) is not your typical volunteering agency, we are committed to building sustainable communities across the Pacific. If you’re an experienced nurse professional, looking for an extraordinary overseas experience in the Pacific to build into your field of expertise – working collaboratively with the National Referral Hospital, then read on, as we have an exciting opportunity in store for you!
Our Partner Organisation
The Solomon Islands National Sports Council (NSC) promotes the development of sports and recreation. It provides facilities, conducts research and disseminates knowledge and advice on sports and recreation. It also has responsibility for managing sports facilities and the country’s high-performance sports programme.
The Solomon Islands Government recently launched the National Sport and Recreation Policy. The NSC is partly responsible for ensuring the goals of the policy are implemented. Right now, the main priority for the NSC Board is governance for itself as well as the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees and the various other sport federations within the country.
The Assignment
As a VSA Volunteer, you'll immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the Solomon Islands helping the NSC configure their Board to ensure the skills and expertise required to function effectively are in place. Moving forward you will then support them to build the capacity of their team so they can support the various sports federations around the country to function effectively.
You will work alongside the local team and various sports federations to ensure governance policy aspirations are understood and implemented. You will also help spread the knowledge and expertise to achieve the desired outcomes of the governments’ National Sports and Recreation Policy.
The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone? VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community. You will need to be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community.
We're looking for a volunteer with the following:
Explore the natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the Solomon Islands, a breathtaking archipelago nestled in the South Pacific. You’ll discover pristine coral reefs teeming with marine life, lush rainforests, exotic birds and cascading waterfalls. Join us and let the welcoming Solomon Islanders leave an unforgettable mark on your soul.
