The Assignment
This assignment is a partnership assignment between VSA and Teitoiningaina.
Teitoiningaina, the National Catholic Women’s Association of Kiribati, seeks a volunteer to assist in updating its strategic three-year plan. Engage with the CE and leadership team to build clear mission and vision statements. Use your knowledge of organisational development to define thematic areas, and strategies for human and financial resource sustainability. The revised plan should include a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track outcomes and align with Kiribati’s 20-Year Vision Development Plan (KV20) 2016-2036 and the Kiribati Development Plan 2023-2026. This effort is crucial for engaging development partners and securing support. Teitoiningaina partners with Caritas New Zealand (CANZ) to deliver the He Oranga Taurikura Kiribati programme, which promotes community health, climate resilience, and sustainable food security. This role is a chance to contribute to lasting positive change in Kiribati.

Our Partner Organisation – Teitoiningaina
Teitoiningaina, the National Catholic Women’s Association of Kiribati, represents over 35,000 women across the country. The organisation is dedicated to empowering women in their roles within families, communities, and the church. It aims to reduce poverty, enhance food security, and build climate change resilience, while promoting Christian values, peace, and family stability. Key strategies include providing training in nutrition, cooking, sewing, and handicrafts, alongside financial literacy, marketing, and family healthcare programmes. Join this meaningful volunteer role and help support women’s empowerment and well-being in Kiribati.

The Country – Kiribati
The Republic of Kiribati (‘kee-ree-bus’), formerly the Gilbert Islands, is a Micronesian country comprising 32 atolls and one raised phosphate island (Banaba), spread across all 4 of the world's hemispheres. Kiribati has a population of just under 120,000, half of whom live in the densely populated capital of South Tarawa.

The average height of the atolls is just over 2 metres above sea level, making Kiribati highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

The mwaneaba (community house) is traditionally the centre of community life where community discussions, council meetings and celebrations occur, and important decisions are made.
