Director Stakeholder Engagement

Volunteer Service Abroad – Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) is New Zealand’s largest and most experienced volunteering agency working within international development. VSA sends New Zealanders and people with strong connections to Aotearoa on overseas assignments to share their skills, experience, and knowledge directly with local people and communities to make real, sustainable change.
  
The Director will lead VSA’s Stakeholder Engagement Group, overseeing marketing, communications, fundraising, partnerships, membership and business development. You’ll lead strategic and operational stakeholder engagement, explore and test innovative programmes, and secure independent  funding to support new initiatives. A key focus is expanding the organisation’s reach and strengthening public support for the impactful volunteering for development work of VSA.
  
This role drives Pacific cultural capability through VSA and leads the activity and commitment to engage closely with Pacific communities in Aotearoa New Zealand. You will build relationships with partners and volunteers in our programmes throughout the wider Pacific, including travelling to various countries to lead this work.
  
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll be part of a strong, positive team who share responsibility for driving achievement of organisational-wide strategic goals.
  
Person Profile:

  • Proven experience leading and managing cross-functional teams and a broad understanding of the stakeholder engagement functions; a background in marketing and public engagement areas will be viewed favourably.
  • A great people leader who has an exceptional ability to lead, coach, develop and motivate others.
  • Previous experience working as part of a leadership team at a wide, whole of organisation level.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution through work programmes.
  • A track record of achievement in stakeholder engagement, including developing relationships that support shared goals and outcomes.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to the principles of international development and understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, bi-culturalism and multi-culturalism.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to “roll your sleeves up” as required.
  • Experience working in social development and/or charity sectors.

The salary range for this role is $135,527 to $159,444, depending on skills and experience. VSA offers flexible working options and five weeks annual leave.
