The VOVCO Co-operative was officially launched on 17 May 2013 in Lakatoro on Malekula. VOVCO is a registered co-operative with the Co-operative Department of Vanuatu and is audited annually by the Department. The Department also assisted the VOVCO Co-operative with basic training in bookkeeping and marketing. Other training in quality control was provided by the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programme in Malekula.

VOVCO is wholly managed by women from its executive, from quality control officers to its daily business undertakings, since it was established.

Purpose:

a. Improve women and family livelihood through income generation

b. Empower women in rural business

c. Increase value-add on coconut products thus alleviating burden on copra making

Priorities:

a. Improve quality control

b. Increase product sales through improved marketing locally and overseas

c. Diversify VCO by-products

d. Build a processing centre (long term)
