Timor-Leste is a young nation, with a youthful population. Young people have had interruptions to their education, and youth unemployment is high. Knua Juventude Fila-Liman (KJFL) is a great organisation based in Timor-Leste which aims to deliver youth-focused employment and entrepreneurship programmes. They provide support services aimed at creating jobs and livelihoods.

On this assignment you will be helping KJFL gain an understanding of opportunities in the tourism sector for youth. This will involve developing a strategic plan and programme plan for KJFL’s activities. Working alongside the organisation, you will help develop effective coaching and mentoring activities. Ultimately enabling Timorese youth develop into successful entrepreneurs and bring lasting change in the tourism sector.

This is an opportunity for a volunteer with experience and knowledge in tourism and a passion for young people. Tourism in Timor-Leste is a great area for potential economic growth and poverty reduction. Work alongside an organisation with a heart for youth innovation, employment and entrepreneurship. Play a key role in helping to create job opportunities for the youth population in Timor-Leste.

We are looking for a volunteer with:

  • Relevant qualification in Tourism, Business or related field with knowledge and understanding of the structure, nature and function of the tourism industry
  • An understanding of the needs of small and medium enterprises in terms of information, business training and incubation
  • Experience in a similar business development role, developing tourism products and building entrepreneurial skills in the tourism industry
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring and building the skills of others through formal and/or informal training and coaching

VSA volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation, insurance, and medical costs are provided. Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs.
