Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are now the leading cause of death in Papua New Guinea. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reported that of the 56,000 deaths in PNG in 2016, 31,400 of these were attributable to NCDs.

In this assignment you will assist in developing, strengthening and delivering cost-effective and evidence-based health education and promotion programmes, with a focus on NCDs.

As the ideal candidate you will be able to develop and manage relationships with existing stakeholders and the wider community. This includes identifying opportunities for more collaborative partnerships with schools, businesses, churches, NGOs, and communities.

Capacity-building and strengthening will occur through training, knowledge sharing, mentoring, facilitated learning and provision of support for systemic improvement of systems and processes. The volunteer will work closely with Health Promotion Officers. VSA assignments provide a unique opportunity for professional development by sharing your skills to build thriving communities in the Pacific and beyond.

The Division and VSA are working together to recruit two volunteers. The volunteers will ideally be recruited concurrently and work together on assignment.
