Volunteering with VSA
Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) is not your typical volunteering agency, we are committed to building sustainable communities across the Pacific. If you’re an experienced Organisational Development Adviser, looking for an extraordinary overseas experience in the Pacific to build into your field of expertise – working collaboratively with the World Vision Reach Centrethen read on, as we have an exciting opportunity in store for you!

Our Partner Organisation - World Vision - REACH Centre
The REACH Centre is embarking on a pathway to localisation project which seeks to enable the REACH Centre, currently operating as part of World Vision Vanuatu to be established as a separate, local entity. In establishing the REACH Centre as a local organisation it is envisaged that the services provided by the
REACH Centre can be scaled further in formal settings outside of programming only affiliated with World Vision Vanuatu.

The Assignment
The VSA volunteer will have skills in business administration and organisational management, specifically human resources and will work closely with the REACH Centre Operations Manager to support their growth in establishing systems and processes. It is envisaged that the assignment would initially be for 1 year with the option (and preference of WVV) that they extend for a further twelve months to oversee development and implementation and ensure that the Operations manager as well as support services staff anticipated to be recruited in 2025 have the confidence and core skillset to sustainably take forward operations independently after the assignment.

The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone?  VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community. You will need to be flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community.

We're looking for a volunteer with the following:

  •  Minimum 5-years' experience in HR, specifically policy development and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) development.
  •  Capacity Building/Mentoring skills.
Experience working in the Pacific, understanding NGO financial systems and policies or working in either the protection/family violence sector or mental health/wellbeing sector is desirable but not essential.

The Country

Vanuatu is an independent republic consisting of 83 islands in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It is located about 3,500 miles southeast of Hawaii and about 1,500 miles northeast of Australia.

The capital and largest city is Port Vila, located on the island of Efaté. As a subtropical archipelago of volcanic origin, Vanuatu is characterised by steep peaks and little permanent fresh water.

Fresh water sources are endangered, and many upland watersheds are being deforested and degraded.  Deforestation has made the land susceptible to soil erosion and landslides.
