Our Partner Organisation - Civil Society Forum of Tonga (CSFT)
The Civil Society Forum of Tonga (CSFT) was officially registered in October 2005. It was founded as a platform to address common issues for small Non-Government Organisations (NGOs)and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). Its main mission is to build resilience through the empowerment of communities to lead their own development aspirations.
The Assignment - Policy and Organisational Development Advisor
CSF is currently looking at ways to strengthen the capacity of its organisation to better support its members. We are looking for a volunteer who can support CSF review current organisational systems and processes as well as those of its member organisations, identify gaps and assist in making improvements or developing new processes.
The volunteer will develop and facilitate training sessions on planning, constitutional development and engagement, and mentor/assist with applications for funding.
The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure, and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone? VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community. You will need to be patient, flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community. The accommodation and living allowance provided will give a volunteer a simple living experience within a local community.

The Country
The Kingdom of Tonga consists of 176 islands in four major groups, Tongatapu Island group, Ha’apai Island group, Vava’u Island group, and the Niu Island group. These islands form a narrow archipelago extending north from the Tropic of Capricorn. There are many natural wonders in Tonga, and it is also one of the only places in the world where you can swim with humpback whales.
The Prime Minister of Tonga is the country’s Head of Government, and the king, currently King Tupou VI, is the Head of State. Tonga’s monarchy is the only surviving monarchy in the Pacific, with a royal family whose lineage dates back to 875 AD. Tonga is proud to be the only Pacific Nation not to be colonised.
VSA has strengthened its 55-year relationship with a renewed strategy focused on good governance, sustainable livelihoods, health and wellbeing, and community development. In Tonga, VSA and partners work together across multiple sectors including education, health, agriculture, climate change, and economic resilience.

- Relevant tertiary qualification with experience in organisational development
- Experience developing and implementing policies relevant to CSO’s and strategic and financial plans, and standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
- Strong communication, administrative, and organisational skills
- Experience training and/or mentoring
- Experience working with multiple stakeholders.
