Our Partner Organisation - Bougainville Women's Federation
Bougainville Women’s Federation (BWF) was established in 2012 to address issues affecting women, children, and marginalised groups in Bougainville.
To achieve its purpose, BWF works with the women of Bougainville by implementing programs/project and advocates and lobbies with the Autonomous Bougainville Government on issues affecting women.
The Assignment
In this assignment, a VSA volunteer is required to assist and set up digital communications that would enable BWF to communicate widely and effectively with the women and girls of Bougainville. This would assist in BWF’s goal of empowering through disseminating of knowledge and information.
The Volunteer
Are you someone who wants to make a difference, have a sense of adventure and like the challenge of being outside your comfort zone? VSA Volunteers are technical experts who impart their skills and knowledge to the local community. You will need to be patient, flexible, adaptable, resourceful, resilient with a passion for Aotearoa and the wider Pacific community.
We are looking for a volunteer with the following skills and experience:
- A tertiary qualification in communications, information technology or marketing or equivalent professional experience.
- Excellent written communication and editing skills.
- Experienced in using website and social media platforms for mass communication.
- Experience in communication and stakeholder engagement
The Country - Autonomous Region of Bougainville
The Autonomous Region of Bougainville is an island region located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, Bougainville boasts lush rainforests, stunning beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. The island region is also rich in cultural diversity, with a population that includes various indigenous groups and languages. Bougainville is historically significant for the conflict it experienced in the late 20th century which led to a peace agreement and eventual autonomy vote in 2019, paving the way for potential independence. This unique island region combines captivating scenery with a complex socio-political history, making it a fascinating and evolving part of the Pacific landscape. We are looking for a volunteer with:
- Assist in giving the women of Bougainville a bigger voice.
- Flights, accommodation and other expenses covered by VSA
- Build capacity and the online development for the women of Bougainville

VSA covers flights, accommodation, insurance and some expenses. A living allowance is also provided.
