CARE International, Timor-Leste (CITL) works to end poverty and bring about lasting, sustainable development in Timor-Leste placing special focus on enhancing the roles of women and girls to assure their equality in society. CITL works with communities in Timor-Leste to encourage demand for higher quality education, health care and other community services. Care International has been working in Timor-Leste for over 25 years.
The Assignment
Care International’s education team of highly skilled staff produce and distribute the innovative Lafaek magazines in close collaboration with the Ministry of Education, NGOs (both local and international), and local leaders. The Care International education team couples the publication with community dialogue and workshops to demonstrate content in the magazines and reinforce messages. This interpersonal communication is particularly helpful for those of Lafaek’s audiences who are low literate.
In this assignment the VSA volunteer will support staff to improve the quality of the literacy and numeracy content of each of the Lafaek magazines. At the time of writing, the Lafaek team have identified a gap in technical skills particularly in the area of early childhood education and literacy.

- Experience developing and reviewing educational learning materials.
- Experience in delivering workshops, coaching and mentoring colleagues
