Program Development Adviser

Closing Date: 28 June 2021

Category: Youth Engagement & Community Development

The Organisation
Youth Challenge Vanuatu is a registered charitable, non-government, non-religious organization, delivering programs which seek to up-skill and empower youth in leadership, employment, education, and small business development. Originating in 2001 as a program to provide Australian and Canadian young people leadership and development experience alongside Ni-Vanutau youth, since 2003 the program has prioritized the involvement of Ni-Vanuatu youth participants. This has given young Ni-Vanuatu women and men greater opportunities to engage in community development programs, training, business mentoring and access to career support. It has also provided the organisation with greater insight into the challenges that young women and men in Vanuatu experience in seeking employment, becoming leaders and creating their own businesses.

The Assignment
Youth Challenge Vanuatu is looking for a volunteer to increase the profile of the organisation's programs and attract more participants.

A 2015 evaluation of the program revealed that while Youth Challenge Vanuatu's  program design and delivery model was relevant and appropriate, the program was often hindered by a limited number of participants.  A number of recommendations were made to increase these numbers, including deepening engagement with national stakeholders, reviewing marketing and recruitment activities and diversifying the funding base.

Reviewing and improving Youth Challenge Vanuatu's program will ensure more young people, including marginalised youth, have opportunities for economic and social development.

The Volunteer
We are looking for a volunteer with:
  • Qualifications and experience in non-profit management;
  • Experience in the youth development sector; and
  • Skills in facilitation, monitoring and evaluation.
Why you'll love it
Based in Port Vila and working for a grassroots, youth focused community organisation, the role will be varied and engaging. You'll finish each work day with the satisfaction that you've contributed to increasing work opportunities for Ni-Vanutau youth.  Vanuatu has been described as an tropical island paradise boasting a diversity of marine life and beautiful  coral reefs. Swimming, snorkeling and diving are popular activities for you to enjoy on your days off.  As a town, Port Vila is unique, and will delight anyone who is adventurous, curious and open to learning and understanding new cultures.
