An accomplished executive, VSA Chair Hone McGregor, has been a CEO and Board Director in private sector export services companies, interdisciplinary research entities, multilateral banks, government and not-for-profit volunteer sector boards, environmental and conservation sector and Maori-indigenous business enterprises over the past 15 years.
With 30 years of international experience (in economic transformation, labour market, social & infrastructure development), working with volunteers, development organisations and communities. He has led major development programmes throughout the Pacific, Asia, South Asia, and the Middle East.
Hone has a keen interest in working with volunteer organisations (former CEO of NZ's leading environmental NGO, Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society) and working alongside partners in developing economies, civil society, Māori and indigenous groups, and commercial entities.
Hone has a Masters Degree in Education (Distinction) from Victoria University and a Diploma in Teaching from Te Whānau o Ako Pai Wellington Teachers College. His career also spans Defence, Treasury (Reserve Debt Management Office), Castrol Oil, IndoSuez (Merchant Bank), Foreign Affairs & Trade, NZQA, UNEVOC, Wakatū Incorporation, Polytechnics International New Zealand, Kono LLP, Forest & Bird Society and OLW National Science Challenge. Hone has also been a primary school teacher and private pilot (fixed-wing).
