Council Member (Voluntary)

Closing Date: Monday 23 January 2023

Volunteer Service Abroad - Te Tūao Tāwāhi (VSA) is Aotearoa’s leading international development volunteer agency, connecting people and supporting countries across the Pacific to build their own capacity and sustainability. In 2022, VSA celebrates its 60th anniversary with almost 4,000 volunteers having been recruited over that period..

VSA focuses on people-centred development. It places great importance on manaakitanga, meaning it values respectful partnerships, working and learning together, cross-cultural understanding, and the spirit of volunteering. VSA’s values and strategic focus reflect its commitment to bringing the spirit of Te Tiriti o Waitangi to the philosophy and values of its international development programme.

VSA is an incorporated society guided by our Kaitakawaenga, and a governing body of seven people. Our Council meets four or five times per year and works very closely with VSA’s Te Tumu Whakarae – CEO.

We want Council members from all backgrounds with the energy and drive to make a difference – change makers to build on the achievements of this amazing organisation. You’ll be motivated to achieve VSA’s vision and live our values, and have the time, passion and integrity to take on all parts of the role.

We value independent thinkers, who like working as a team and are happy to accept collective responsibility – people who are interested in learning about governance or with direct experience, and ultimately want to help set VSA’s strategy and ensure we remain on course.

As our governing body, the Council aims to reflect the strong diversity and ngā tāngata o Aotearoa. We seek to have Council members with experience and relationships in the Pacific countries within which we work, and we encourage all New Zealanders who are keen to be part of and learn about the governance of a values based and progressive organisation, to consider being involved.
