My generalist background, of which over 20 years was spent at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) prior to joining VSA, includes roles in HR coordination, senior administration and case management in both private and public sector roles. I've worked in frontline consular services delivery, internal policy & procedures development and a wide range of HR and admin functions. I was also lucky enough to spend three years living and working in Samoa as Admin Attaché at the New Zealand High Commission.
My role in the People & Capability team at VSA includes a wide variety of HR coordination and administration for Wellington based and overseas staff, health & safety coordination for Wellington office and a variety of HR tasks and projects to assist the Director People & Capability. I also help out my colleagues in the Volunteer Recruitment Team when they need me.
Working at VSA, as well as providing day to day variety in the work I do, provides a huge insight into development issues facing our Pacific neighbours, and an appreciation of the resilience of the Pacific people. It is inspiring to hear the stories of the two-way skills exchange between our New Zealand volunteers and the people and partner organisations they work with in their host countries.
