The Operations Manager is part of VSA's International Programmes Unit (IPU). The Wellington-based staff in this unit are responsible for supporting VSA’s country programmes throughout the Pacific. In this role you’ll manage five staff in providing support to the development of overseas assignments for New Zealand volunteers, assisting in the selection and debrief of volunteers, and overseeing briefing and deployment logistics for volunteers. You’ll also lead and contribute to the effective running and improvement of key IPU operations, oversee monitoring, evaluation and reporting on VSA’s programmes, and deputise for the Director International Development as required.
The role works closely with all parts of the organisation to ensure successful and productive volunteer assignments.
This position suits a well organised team player, who has a positive “can do” attitude. The ideal candidate will have:
- proven people leadership experience
- operational management expertise - ideally in a similar type of environment
- well-developed administrative, and finance/budget management skills and high computer literacy
- a collegial and consultative approach
- highly effective communications and interpersonal skills
- programme management skills - including experience at monitoring and evaluation.
Our ideal candidate will understand the place of international volunteering, and will hold a current passport confirming New Zealand citizenship or New Zealand permanent residence with a multiple re-entry permit.
