Country Programme Advisor - Papua New Guinea

An opportunity to work in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and support our programme of international development through volunteering there as our Country Programme Advisor, assisting volunteers and providing support to our Programme Manager.

Te āhua o Te Tūrunga – The nature of the position

this role is part of VSA's Finance and Programme Delivery team, which comprises team members throughout the Pacific and in Wellington. The Programme Managers located throughout the Pacific manage country programmes, build relationships with overseas partner organisations, create assignments, and oversee VSA volunteer assignments.

This role is integral to our programme delivery in PNG as it provides direct advisory capability and support to the Programme Manager and contributes to the development of partnerships with organisations in PNG. You will provide support and coordination to our volunteers arriving to PNG.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako – Essential skills/experiences for the role

The ideal Country Programme Advisor will be a robust, resilient and flexible self-starter who also:

  • has previous work or volunteering experience in development programme support or administration in PNG.
  • Knowledge of and networks in the development sector in PNG.
  • Training or qualification in social sciences or related discipline.
  • An understanding of the principles and vision of VSA’s commitment to a model of sustainable development through partnership and the involvement of New Zealand volunteers.

This role will be deployed to PNG, so you will need a valid NZ Passport, able to get a work visa for PNG (we will support this process), a clean police record and valid driver’s license (all of which must be maintained for the full duration of employment with VSA).
