The Vanuatu Qualifications Authority (VQA) is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament on 23 June 2014. The VQA was previously known and functioned as the Vanuatu National Training Council. The VQA is governed by a Board with membership across government departments and private sector, reflecting the importance and multi-sectored nature of a post-school education and training system.
The VQA is broadly responsible for “improving the effectiveness and efficiency of Post–School Education and Training (PSET) throughout Vanuatu, engaging industry; business; training providers; trade unions and other stakeholders in reforming the PSET system, and ensuring that PSET programs and services meet the current and emerging needs of industry, business and the broader community in all provinces. In addition, VQA is legally responsible for the development and maintenance of the National Qualifications Framework through standards and qualifications setting, quality assurance, accreditation, equivalency of qualifications and assessment including the recognition of prior learning.”
