Live & Learn uses contextualised community-led total sanitation with sanitation marketing so that vulnerable households have access to durable and desirable sanitation goods and services. We also adopt human-centred, social marketing techniques to address the motivators for hygiene behaviour change and menstrual hygiene management. Government partnership is a foundation of our WASH approach, enabling programs to work at scale and build long-term sustainability. Programs start by aligning with national WASH policies, then building engagement with the right government agencies.
Live and Learn International are one of VSA's strategic regional partners and Live and Learn Tonga is part of this Pacific-wide programme network. In Tonga, following Cyclone Gita, Live and Learn Tonga is working with communities towards the recovery of community water and sanitation for health (WASH) facilities. In order to do so, Live and learn needs to significantly grow its organisation. 8-staff members are being recruited for February 2019. Live and Learn Tonga intend to grow from one small programme to multiple WASH programmes across more than 40 communities, on Tonagtapu and ‘Eua, with a total of 10-20 people employed on implementation. Live and Learn Tonga has access to Live and Learn International’s policies, systems and procedures, but needs assistance in taking these and localising and contextualising them to fit the Tonga programme. They also need assistance in ensuring their systems and processes are robust enough for the growth in the organisation.
