The Catholic Archdiocese of Rabaul is one of the New Guinea Islands’ oldest Catholic Missions. Today it has two main agencies which run operations: the Catholic Education Agency and the Catholic Health Service. The Catholic Education Agency oversees the running of approximately 200 educational facilities, from primary schools such as the Vunapope International Primary School through to tertiary vocational training institutions and a teacher training college. The Catholic Health Service runs St Mary's hospital at Vunapope, in addition to a number of health clinics servicing the greater East New Britain area.

The Archdiocese is one of VSA's oldest partners in East New Britain. We currently place volunteers in health sector assignments with St Mary's Hospital at Vunapope, and in education sector assignments with St Peter Chanel Catholic College of Secondary Teacher Education.

In addition to these two organisations, VSA volunteers also work with the Archdiocese's central administration office on a range of projects including social housing in East New Britain, and with the Filiae Maria Imakulata (FMI) Sisters who operate the Meri Seif Haus (women's safe house) in Kokopo.
