Gaulim Teachers College (GTC) is a rural primary teacher training college in East New Britain, situated approximately 40km (about one hours travel) outside of Kokopo. The College is a United Church institution run under the Papua New Guinea Department of Education. GTC promotes Christian values, norms, philosophies, beliefs and actions as part of its ethos. It began operations on the current site in 1966. The College was formed from the amalgamation of a number of small pastor and teacher training institutions. In 1972, the United Church entered into a partnership agreement with the State. The United Church as an agency owns the College and provides the facilities and ethos, while the State employs the lecturers, provides operational grants, and provides study scholarships to Papua New Guinea students. The College Principal provides the day-to-day management of the institution.
